about
Relentlessly productive and enviably prolific, Kagami Smile is back on (Sores) Sound+Matter with a triptych of cassette releases, to delve deeper into his nuanced approach to producing music somewhere between ambient, drone and dub. “Gathering Dust” is a drifting slow-burner, which operates through dense soundscapes and subterranean beats and bass lines. Reaching peaks and climaxes is not the purpose here. Instead, weʼre guided through thick layers of ambiance, percussive sonic debris and reverberations from long abandoned club halls and chill out rooms. Kagami Smile is equally interested in warmer, dubbier production but in putting harsher soundscapes as well. Juggling with these polar approaches make his music a varying experience, which we cannot recommend more.
